Rocio’s Transformation: Small Changes Can Be Big

Source: Ramona K Coaching Blog | Article written by Ramona Kossowan

Rocio is an amazing, smart, resourceful woman who’s been through some challenging times in her life. When we first connected for coaching I had the honor of working with her during my practicum as a personal empowerment coach in 2020, and then again as a Gentle Trauma Release Practitioner in 2021 and 2023.

I’ve been honored to connect with her at these different stages, and support her with coaching to arrive at the place she is now, wanting more for herself in her fitness, habits & self care.

Rocio wanted to take care of her body, feel good, and look good too! Unfortunately, she was getting caught in a loop that wasn’t serving her best interests. Perhaps you can relate to some of this?

  • The more she exercised (doing HIIT, cardio and circuit style workouts), the more hungry and burnt out she felt, and the more her weight crept up. (Cortisol was being driven even higher by these types of workouts, when her nervous system was already in survival mode. Being a woman over forty, these kinds of workouts were not ideal for her body long term.)

  • Stress and overwhelm left her with little capacity for meal planning and she wasn’t asking for enough help.(Recent life events had left her feeling depleted, plus she was on autopilot just cramming her schedule too much.)

  • She was endlessly taking on more than her body could handle with work and family commitments, so there was not a lot of space left for fun, joy, self care and emotional connection. (Stress and overwhelm were limiting her creative mind and ability to connect, and her self care became an afterthought.)

  • She had the “all or nothing” mentality when it came to eating healthy (more of a diet mindset) and exercise (feeling guilty if she didn’t do enough) so it came down to either hard core workouts and diets or nothing at all. (This mind programming is sooooo typical for women, because it’s what we’ve done in the past or have been told is necessary. It keeps us from even getting started because it sucks).

What’s the good news, you ask?

Rocio took a step of courage and committed to herself with the Energized & Empowered Body pilot program this past spring.

Rocio was able to turn that ship around and start feeling more physically, emotionally and mentally empowered.

Here’s what she said:

“I really enjoyed Energized & Empowered Body.

It had me think in a different way. I made smaller changes, but the small changes have been big.

I started to prioritize my sleep, I slowed down on the cardio, and started walking and just doing other things, which have made me more mindful. I feel like that’s helped a lot.  I feel like my stress levels have gone down, and I think a lot of it has to do with the program.

I did find [the Mother/Daughter Energy Module] really helpful.  I’d ask myself, what is it that I really need right now? What’s going on? And then go from there. So it had me stop and pause, and I think that stop and pause was very helpful.

I was able to hold myself accountable. I felt like I was learning something.  I was actually weightlifting, and I feel like I know what I’m doing.

I got more than what I expected as far as the modules, and I’m feeling a little more empowered.

I think I went in with, Okay, I’m gonna work out.’ But it was more than that. I got more of what I needed.”
