Breaking Free From the Stories That Keep You Stuck
By Nicki Laberge
Have you ever thought you’d know exactly how you’d feel, only to feel completely different? Maybe you imagined clarity, freedom, or relief after a big life change, but instead, you felt stuck, disconnected, or unsure of who you were.
That feeling of disconnection is more common than you might think. It’s like there’s an invisible wall between you and the life you want to live. You can see it, even feel it, but you just can’t seem to get there.
This happens because healing doesn’t just happen in the mind, it happens in the body, too. When we ignore what’s stored in our bodies, we stay stuck in cycles we can’t think our way out of. Emotions like fear, anger, or sadness can get trapped in our bodies, creating patterns that keep us from moving forward.
So, how do you break through that wall? It starts with going deeper, beyond surface-level fixes like talking, journaling, or reading. Those things help, but real healing requires addressing what’s happening beneath the surface.
Here are two practices to help you reconnect with yourself and start releasing what’s been holding you back:
Somatic Awareness
Pay attention to where you feel emotions in your body. Is it a tightness in your chest? A heaviness in your stomach? Describe it—does it feel sharp, dull, heavy, or tight? This simple act of noticing and naming your physical sensations can help release emotions that have been stored for years.
Uncovering Limiting Beliefs
Often, we’re stuck because of the stories we tell ourselves—stories we don’t even realize we’re carrying. Start by noticing your inner dialogue. What are you saying to yourself when you feel stuck? Is it, “I’m not good enough,” or, “I’ll never figure this out”? Once you identify these beliefs, ask yourself: Is this true? Where did this belief come from?
Healing is a journey, and it’s not always a comfortable one. But it’s in those uncomfortable moments that the most profound shifts happen. If you’re feeling stuck right now, know this: you’re not alone and you have the power to reconnect with yourself and move forward.
And lastly, healing isn’t about going back to who you were, it’s about becoming the person you’re meant to be. The person you know you are craving to be.
Healing is not about returning to who you once were. It’s about stepping into the person you are truly meant to be. The journey may feel uncomfortable, but it opens the way to freedom, self-worth, and inner peace. Each step forward reconnects you with your strength and authentic self. Ultimately, healing allows you to embrace the life you’ve been longing for.
